Description

The Eastern Veil nebula (also known as Caldwell 33) is a cloud of heated and ionized gas and dust in the constellation of Cygnus and is located at around 1470 light-years from Earth. It is part of the Cygnus Loop which is a faint supernova remnant that exploded approximately 7000 years ago. From the moment the source star exploded and until now, the Cygnus Loop supernova remnant expanded to a diameter of roughly 3° on the sky. The red hues in this image are from ionized hydrogen content of gas clouds that emit light in the H-alpha wavelength, while the cyan hues are from oxygen ions. (from Sky & Telescope)

Description: Same original data, 3x Drizzle and Median Kappa-Sigma Clipping in DSS.
Processing steps:
- Crop the target area only
- Deconvolution
- ABE
- Histogram Transformation (linear to non-linear)
- Star Reduction with standard filter setting for star mask, reduction Morphological Selection
- created SHO image twice
- first one in PI with Color Mask adjusted to Hubble settings
- second with PS adjusted to Hubble settings
- combined both images 50/50
- selective color in PS
- Star Reduction, Noise Reduction, and sharpening in PS
- ADV Sharpening in PI.

What a difference to the previous version!

C

Description: Looked at the flaws of the last version (after a good rest of my eyes) and corrected some. Reduced star sizes while stretching the image. Re-sampled at the end, masked brighter stars and reduced the red channel.

D

Description: Processed Hubble color adjustment in PI with the same base as previous version and combined again both images 50/50. Masked colors and enhanced them to my taste.

E

Description: Took the advice from John Michael and tried to combine version B and D and I believe he was right 😊. 2 more new versions, one even more aggressive (might be not as good).
Processing: Created starless image of version D and this version was created via PixelMath (max).

F

Description: This version was created through PS, a starless version D more stretched and combined with version B via Hue.
