Description

This is my first attempt to photograph an ISS transit of anything.

This night featured a nice combination of clear skies, a lighted ISS, and the discovery that my Dad's backyard has some decently dark skies (Bortle 4-5 with issues). The illuminated ISS was very helpful when it came to timing the capture. I didn't want to use video and sacrifice resolution, so I had to gently squeeze the shutter release (no cable release available for my camera) at just the right time, and hold it until the frame buffer was filled. I had tested all my settings a couple of nights before to be sure the inevitable shake wouldn't have TOO much effect on the images. I'm pretty satisfied with how this turned out. I'll be looking forward to catching another transit higher in the sky, and hopefully capture more detail on the ISS.

My dad was there to witness the transit with me, and my step-mom came along later. I pulled out the eyepieces, and we looked at Jupiter and its Galilean moons, Saturn, M31, M13, and some decently magnified views of the Moon. All firsts for them. I love seeing people see this stuff for the first time.
