Description

Although this has a been relatively poor season for seeing, I was lucky to have superb conditions on the 23rd September. When the seeing is this good a lot of detail can be resolved as it is in this image. Usually when the seeing is not spot on, we lose detail towards the limbs and the pole. Here you can see the detail is preserved pole to pole and limb to limb.
Can you spot the GRS? It is on the preceding "p" limb (at right, barely visible it is so close to edge on. Note also the tapering complex wake of the GRS as it extends perhaps 100 degrees around the SEB.
I image Jupiter a lot, as I am sure you know :-), but I only post my very best ones here. Notwithstanding the technical aspects of the planet's atmospheric patterns, the thing that strikes me most about Jupiter is its abject beauty.
