Description

The beautiful and mysterious looking Wizard Nebula with NGC 7380, an open star cluster within the large hydrogen cloud. 7200 light years away and about 100 light years in diameter, an active star forming region in the constellation Cepheus.

This is my very first narrowband image and I got so excited when I received the first Ha-frames from the camera. Unfortunately I do not have the AP-flatener for the TEC yet and the stars are not very good in the corners. The guiding of the 10micron was assisted by an OAG and I achieved an avg RMS of about 0.5".

There were a lot of ups and downs involved with PixInsight and processing strategies but I finally got a look I like.

I chose the red/blue color palette to create a more distinctive and mysterious look and to give a feeling for the huge extent and the dimensional depth of this area.

All frames are processed in PixInsight and final color-grading in Photoshop. Modified SHO natural palette and star color added from RGB.

LRGB-Combination:

R: 0.5*SII + 0.5*HA

G: 0.1*HA + 0.9*OIII

B: OIII

L: 0.5*HA + 0.3*OIII + 0.2*SII

18x600s Ha 7nm

28x600s OIII 8.5nm

25x600s SII 8nm

25x150s R

25x150s G

25x150s B

15h integration taken over 4 nights.

Hope you like it
