Description

I had what looks to be a final 50-minute opening before tropical storm Ian, soon to become a hurricane, sideswipes central Florida with lots of rain.

Yes- only 50 minutes of data but this little scope is working like a champ.  With the ASI2600mm and an Astronomik Ha (6nm) filter, I managed 10 5-minute frames.  No darks or flats were used.

This is my first time imaging this area of gas and dust located in the constellation Cepheus about 2,400 light years from Earth.  Original version is the uncropped view.  Version B simply zooms in on the famous Elephant Trunk region (IC1396A).   Ha only images still amaze me- they simply pop out details that don't get distracted by color.  And this in less than an hour.

I have one final change to make to the setup.  I need to replace the guide scope with an OAG.  The piggyback placement of the Baby Q on top of the C11" EdgeHD is causing too much flexure following meridian flip, leading to 1 or 2 frames being ruined by elongated stars.  I did this in the past with the Stellarvue and it seemed to work very well.  After this final adjustment, I am hoping for clear fall skies to get many hours for decent images.
