Description

NGC 6633 is a large and bright open cluster in Ophiuchus, and with an integrated visual magnitude of 4.6, can be seen with the naked eye from dark skies set in a rich star field. A fine object for binoculars, NGC 6633 is also Known as the Tweedledum Cluster (Tweedledee is nearby IC 4756). At a distance of "only" 1,000 light years, it spans 27 minutes of arc and appears nearly as large as the full moon, it contains 39 confirmed members. The cluster is also cataloged as Collinder 380 and Melotte 201. NGC 6633 is classified as a Trumpler Type III 2 m open cluster.
