Description

NGC3917 is a large, highly inclined spiral galaxy with a very small core and multiple spiral arms. A complex pattern of dust and many knots and condensations can be visible with good seeing conditions and a large telescope. A razor-thin companion (UGC6802/ PGC36973) can also be seen in the field, as well as several smaller galaxies including NGC3931 (the brightest one)

Radial velocity: 1030 km/s
Distance: 46 million light years
Diameter: 67000 light years
