Description

M83 is a barred spiral galaxy known as The Southern Pinwheel and NGC 5236 and is located in the constellation Hydra 15.21 million light-years from Earth. It was discovered in 1752 by the French astronomer Nicolas Louis de Lacaille.

The Southern Pinwheel is roughly half the size of the Milky Way with an apparent magnitude of 7.5. M83 is one of the brightest spiral galaxies in the night sky and can be observed using a pair of binoculars most easily in May.

M83 is low in the Southern sky so it took 2 nights for this project and was captured in LRGB.

Thanks and Clear Skies, Eddie
