Description

Gold Canyon, Arizona

December 17-21, 2020 and January 1, 2021

NGC 891, the Silver Sliver Galaxy, was captured with broadband filters, Luminance, Red, Green and Blue. This edge-on galaxy is located in the constellation Andromeda. The galaxy was the first of two objects imaged each night as I waited for IC 410, the Tadpoles, to get high enough in the sky. Normally, I would not have used the focal reducer for this galaxy, but IC 410 required it. I made a mistake in Sequence Generator Pro by setting the gain to 200 for the R, G and B channels. This clipped more stars than I wanted, and the dynamic range was reduced.

Reprocessed 2/2/2023 with new tools and workflow in PixInsight.
