Description

I observed this object on 4 October 2021 at the Okie-Tex Star Party using a 22” Obsession UC Dobsonian: The location of this GC was easy to find. I did the observation just as the GC was setting over a hill and just at astronomical twilight. Using both direct and averted vision I could see about 10 of the stars that make up this loose GC. The GC is faint because it is 75,000 LY away. Nice to bag this one!

There is a shredding process of disruption acting on this cluster because of the gravitation of the Milky Way - there are many stars leaving this cluster in the form of a stellar stream (shown in image below). The stream has a mass of 5000 solar masses and is 30,000 light years long. It shows a noticeable amount of flattening, with an aspect ratio of 0.62 ± 0.23 between its semi-major axis and semi-minor axis.
