Description

The corona australis dark nebula. It is a region full of huge stars, and if not in perfect focus and with enough patience, the nebula won't pop out of the field easily. Took some days to image it properly and collect the best frames I could. But in the end, results were quite amazing! I didn't have gradients at all. I didn't even needed to apply DBE and color calibration. Taken under my wooden observatory, remotely from my room, during July 26 until July 28. Nontheless, it's noticiable how autoguiding can improve considerably the image quality, mainly star size and detailing. As I'm using the EQ3-2, my guiding was not the best (total error of something around 0.8" until 1.6"), but while using a lens, the errors won't be as noticeable as with a telescope. No more star trails!! Yay!!

During these days in Brazil, in southern and high altitude places, we had the coldest days of the year., with temperatures going from -9, -4 and -3 degrees celcius each day. Even though my hands were quite cold, the noise ammount was significantly reduced, as the sensor temperature was very low. My guidescope was completely covered by frost.

The DIY autofocuser also made a huge difference. Temperature drops from 19 to -3 in a matter of some hours, so refocusing manually each 30 minutes was a hard deal.  I did it with and arduino and the cheapest step mottor available here, the 28BJY-48, together with "my focuser pro 2" project by Robert Brown. My setup is fully remote now.

Thanks for taking a look at this image and reading all this stuff- and special thanks for Mauricio Christiano for taking out the color noise in Photoshop. Clear skies for all
