Jones-Emberson 1 (PK 164+31.1). I love planetary nebulae--they're so colorful and distinctive, it's as if each has its own personality. This time of year, a trio of them are in prime position for imaging from my yard--the
Medusa Nebula (Sh2-274);
Abell 31/Sh2-290, and this one, Jones-Emberson 1 (PK 164+31.1), sometimes called the Headphones Nebula. But targets like this often require more patience than I can muster and (as is clear from the linked images above), I've had mixed results.
This project required about 15 hours of integration (and, as always, would have benefitted from more) and pushed my modest focal length (and processing skills) close to the limit. This is the last of the aforementioned trio that I've gone after, but the first that I can say I've successfully captured.
