Description

This was such a tough target to process. M56 is so small (5.80') and not very bright (magnitude 8.58) and I was trying very hard to make this shot look interesting.

In the end the only thing remarkable is the sheer number of stars in Lyra.  I only have my travel rig with me which yields a field of view of 3x2 degrees, so such a small DSO is going to look very small indeed in this wide field shot.

Anyway...here it is

M56 is 32,900 light years away and 84 light years across. It was discovered by Charles Messier in 1779.
