Description

The Draco Galaxy Trio (NGC 5981 / 82 / 85) is spectacular and a favorite of astroimagers. This is not that trio. This is the Draco Tiny Galaxy Trio, which I found by accident and which I have never seen captured on an image before.

All of these galaxies look different, yet all are classified as barred spiral galaxies. The most striking, and most distant, galaxy is the yellowish ring galaxy at upper left, NGC 6232. This galaxy is located 200 million light years away and has a diameter of 100,000 light years.

The other two galaxies, NGC 6236 at lower left and NGC 6248 at upper right, are both significantly deformed with star streams and could be interacting with each other. They are both about 55 million light years away and each is about 40,000 light years in diameter. Each galaxy is bluish and contains several star clusters.

As an extra bonus, the image also contains a 4th galaxy, NGC 6245. This is the small smudge at the lower left edge of the image.
