Description

NGC 4258  in RGBHA

This is my first attempt at imaging a galaxy with a mono camera. If you have any suggestions that could make my processing better, please let me know.
One day I may add more hours of integration to this image, maybe I can bring out more of the faint outer areas around M 106 and more details in the inner section.
This was a learning process for me with a lot of experimentation.

PixInsight Processing -

Blink - remove defective images
SubframeSelector - choose the best images
WeightedBatchPreprocessing - stack images for all the filters ie Red, Green, Blue, Ha
Dynamic Crop - Red, Green, Blue, Ha
EZDenoiose - Red, Green, Blue, Ha
EZSoftStretch - Red, Green, Blue, Ha
AutomaticBackgroundExtractor - Red, Green, Blue, Ha - Function: 2, using Subtraction
StarNet2 - Red, Green, Blue, Ha

MultiscaleMediumTransfer - Sharpen Luminance image (Lum)

Combine Ha and Red -
    PixelMath - RGB/K set to ((Ha * 80) - (Red * 7))/(80 - 7)
        Single RGB/K expression
        Greyscale
Create a new image and rename it new-ha
   PixelMath - RGB/K set to $T + (new-ha - Med(new_ha)) * 0.3
        Single RGB/K expression
        Greyscale
Drag PM instance onto the Red image - name it RedHa

Combine R,G,B star images (from Starnet2)
       PixelMath: RGB/K: RedStars, GreenStars, BlueStars
              Uncheck 'Single Expression',  RGB Color
              Apply
              Rename image - StarsRGB

Combine RedHa,Green,Blue
       PixelMath: RK = RedHa* 0.83, G = Green, B = Blue
Create new image and rename it RGBHa
RangeSelection - create a range mask for RGBHa - protect the background
LRGBCombination - set L to Lum image
Drag instance to RGBHa and rename the image LRGBHa
Invert the mast to protect the galaxies and stars
CurvesTransformation
RGB/K: create an s-curve to darken background and brighten galaxy center

Invert the mask to protect the background
LocalHistogramEqualization 8-bit, 64, 2.0, 0.21, 8-bit
      Drag instance to LRGBHa
UnsharpMask - StdDev: 4.10, Amount: 0.45, Apply to LRGBHa

Remove mask
ACDNR - Amount: 0.5, StdDev: 2.0, Apply to LRGBHa

Combine stars with main image
     PixelMath
RGB/K: StarsRGB + RGBHa - rename the new image M106
PhotometricColorCalibration - calibrate M106 colors

This processing did a pretty good job on my data.
Any suggestions would be appreciated.

Monty
