NGC6188 in Narrow Band mapped in HST pallet

This emission nebula is found near the edge of a large molecular cloud unseen at visible wavelengths, in the southern constellation Ara. New stars were formed in that region only a few million years ago, sculpting the dark shapes and powering the nebular glow with stellar winds and intense ultraviolet radiation.

The recent star formation itself was likely triggered by winds and supernova explosions, from previous generations of massive stars, that swept up and compressed the molecular gas. Joining NGC 6188 on this cosmic canvas is rare emission nebula NGC 6164, also created by one of the region’s massive O-type stars. This nebula is distant 4.000 light years and comprises of a planetary nebula, just barely visible in this image (on hte lower left hand) and some patches of dark nebulas.

Now that I have my telescopefixed, I am thinking to re-do this image with a best framing and some more subs.

Views by Submitters (available since September 19th, 2023) Every image is assigned to 50% of available Submitters. In the event that at least 80% of them don't view the image before its time in the IOTD/TP process expires, it's assigned to the other 50% of Submitters and the process begins anew.
Promotions by Submitters When 3 distinct Submitters promote the image, it moves on to the next stage of the process: evaluation for Top Pick status.
