Description

I took advantage of a trip to the countryside (Bortle 4) and the glorious weather this March to try to capture both the beautiful galaxy M106 and as many of the faint galaxies in the background which often get "edited out" when presenting this galaxy here on Astrobin. My editing involved quite a few steps in trying to achieve this goal. In particular I tried to prevent the brighter stars from bloating too much while at the same time stretch the background enough so that the fainter galaxies become visible.

M106 itself with its bright and very active core presents the usual challenges in striking the right balance between showing the intricate spiral arms with their nuances of colour and structure and detail in the dust lanes of the core.

Once the weather clears up again, I plan to add more Ha data to enhance the barely visible (for now) jets of ionised hydrogen gas that are ejected from the galaxy core. And maybe even more Luminance data to bring out the background galaxies some more.

I hope you like it!
