Description

I had one clear night during the new-ish moon this week before the rain moved in, so I wanted to see what I could achieve with my new mono camera in a limited amount of time. M 83 charts a nice, high path through the sky right now, and despite some poor seeing conditions towards the end of the session as it dipped back down to the horizon, I think it turned out alright. Always more processing skills to improve though.

M 83 is a massive grand design spiral galaxy located about 15 million LY from Earth, on the border of the constellations Centaurus and Hydra. This lovely gem forms the centre of one sub-group within the Centaurus A/M 83 group of galaxies (the other centre being the equally lovely Centaurus A), part of the massive Virgo Supercluster.

I hope you enjoy!
