Description

The Leo Triplet is a stunning trio of galaxies located in the constellation Leo. NGC 3628, also known as the Hamburger Galaxy due to its shape when viewed edge-on, spans about 300,000 light-years across, making it comparable in size to our own Milky Way. Situated approximately 35 million light-years away from Earth, NGC 3628 boasts intricate dust lanes and stellar streams that reveal its turbulent past. Revealing these stellar streams was the main goal of this project!

M65 and M66, the other two members of the Leo Triplet, are both spiral galaxies exhibiting vibrant arms of star formation. M65 measures about 100,000 light-years in diameter, while M66 is slightly larger at 120,000 light-years across. These galaxies lie at a distance of around 35 to 37 million light-years from Earth, forming a gravitational dance with NGC 3628.
