Description

NGC1909 /IC 2118 is an extremely faint reflection nebula believed to be an ancient supernova remnant or gas cloud illuminated by nearby supergiant star Rigel in the constellation of Orion. The nebula lies in the Eridanus Constellation, about 900 light-years from Earth. (Wikipedia)

Taken on a EXTREMELY frosty night here in Maryland Christmas night.....but the moon was still a waxing cresent and the skies were very clear (but cold).....so much like the witchy figure in this image,  I starred at the brillance of Rigel's blue fiery light from a distance and imagined the warmth it must hold! ;-)

I was pleasantly surprised to discover when processing this image how many distant faint galaxies revealed in the background of this image!
