Description

1.5  h  HA and 3h O3  images taken using a mono camera were combined into a narrowband OOHa image of NGC281 at F 5.0, f = 1000 mm.  2h of SII were further combined in to create an SHO image.  After normal processing and then the use of starnet to converty to starless images he NB image was combined using PI pixmath with red 100% HA, green 100%  O3 and blue 15% HA  plus 85% O3.  HA was dominant throughout the nebula and to add detail HA was  used as luminance.  RGB stars from a 1.5 h OSC camera image taken through a UHC filter were then added to the NB image.  Capture was with Sharpcap and preprocessing plus processing  (background removal, noise reduction, photometric colour calibration and curves) was carried out using PixInsight.  THe SHO image included 2h of S2 imaging using a 6nM Optolong filter.

NGC 281  is an emission nebula - spanning 35 arcmin-  within an H II region in the Perseus Spiral Arm and surrounds the open cluster IC 1590 within which the multiple star, B 1 is a major source of ionizing UV.  This  Multiple star 'B 1'  comprises  an O6 spectral class star, HD 5005 or HIP 4121 which is the 8th-magnitude primary and  four smaller companion stars. NGC281 is about 9200 ly distant and spans about 48 ly across.
