Pinwheel Galaxy, M101

I have posted a shot of M101 before taken with the DSLR. Thought I'd have a go with it and the new ASI533MC Pro. While I was at it I tried a few new approaches to processing. The original picture is my original processing workflow. It does kill the brightness while bringing out dark lanes. Having tried a blending of some sharpening techniques (HDR and local histogram equalization) instead of taking 100% of those processes I get a much more balanced picture. I plan to add more data as I can, the first night on M101 with the new camera was cut short by clouds.

Description: The new processing where I blend in HDR and local histogram transformation. In this case it's 50%. If I got more sharpening I might do less but I liked the effect of higher % in this case.

Description: Not much change visually, but added another partial night of data. I'm having some problems with gradient that should be taken care of by flats. Possibly need to cut new darks for the flats, I am using some with the wrong offset maybe though it's only a small change. Probably something about how I'm taking flats...

Description: A little more RGB (49 min) and Ha from l-eXtreme for the first time (3 hours). Using NormalizeScaleGradient script before ImageIntegration which helps a lot with my older RGB data where my flattener wasn't well adjusted. Add in the things I've learned in the last 3 weeks and wow it's looking good. Note I didn't drizzle this time (NSG instead) and it does not suffer. Previous attempt was over the top with 3x drizzle and it simply isn't worth the extra time and effort.

Description: Deconvolution in the previous version resulted in ringing in NGC5450 and NGC5447 that I didn't originally notice. Went back and fixed it. Final curves are now less blue too just because I felt like it..

Views by Submitters (available since September 19th, 2023) Every image is assigned to 50% of available Submitters. In the event that at least 80% of them don't view the image before its time in the IOTD/TP process expires, it's assigned to the other 50% of Submitters and the process begins anew.
Promotions by Submitters When 3 distinct Submitters promote the image, it moves on to the next stage of the process: evaluation for Top Pick status. This requirement, in addition to anonymization of images and distribution to only a subset of them, prevents biases and ensures that the best images are selected.

Early dismissal Staff members have a lot of images to inspect on a daily basis, and they can dismiss images if they believe they don't meet the requirements for IOTD/TP selection.
