Description

Not A Definitive Orion Nebula (M42). Here is the result of my annual trip to M42!  This year I used the Antlia Triband filter (the one I recently used on the Seagull Nebula), and I am beginning to like it--I think this image has a more natural color cast than my last attempt on M42.

This is my first successful mosaic, which stitches together two panels.  It was not easy for me to get this right.  Many attempts left me with crazy gradients and other anomalies that were impossible to correct (though nothing as frustrating as the Mosaic Catastrophe).  Finally, one attempt worked, but I wish I had written down the recipe!

This is still not a version I would consider to be definitive.  I spent just two hours on it--one on each panel of the mosaic--and I didn't take care to protect the core from overexposure.  But it's a step forward: squint and you can actually discern the Trapezium star--sort of!
