Description

The Triangulum Galaxy is a spiral galaxy about 2.8 millions light years away from us, near the Triangulum constellation. It’s size is about half the size of the Milky Way (50,000 light years diameter) and they are both part of the local group, along with the Andromeda Galaxy and other dwarf galaxies.

It was discovered by Giovanni Battista Hodierna in 1654. However, notes from ancient astronomers mention that it was visible under extremely good dark sky conditions.

This picture was taken from Gran Alacant, Santa Pola, Alicante, Spain.
