Description

Despite terrible observing conditions, a newly-discovered supernova in NGC4647 provided a reason to head out. In an hour of imaging I managed to collect just 15 x 20 s frames between rapidly moving clouds. Fortunately the supernova (highlighted in red between the centre of NGC4647 and the much brighter M60) was bright enough to be easily seen even with limited integration time. The supernova magnitude estimated by ASTAP was 14.0 at the time of observation, approximately 12 pm UTC.
