Description

Galaxy M83 in the constellation Hydra. This spiral galaxy is about 15 million light years away. The tiny red spots and dots on the spiral arms are emission nebulae, called by astronomers HII regions, which glow red from Hydrogen gas heated to about 10,000 degrees from radiation from massive, hot, young stars, newly born in the great stellar nurseries where these great gas clouds are found.
