Description

My first start to finish narrow band acquisition and processing. It has been a learning experience. Looking forward to more from the backyard.

Baader f2 HA, SII, and OIII filters were used with 2 hours of data for each filter.

Description: Thanks for your indulgence on this project. Working with narrow band processing has proved to be an incredible challenge for me. I am pretty happy with this result. I totally butchered all efforts prior to this. It has been a learning curve. I did play with adding stars back in, but I really prefer the starless.
I ended up with a blend of
R = SII * 0.5 + Ha * 0.5
G = Ha * 0.5 + OIII * 0.5
B = OIII

Description: Currently working intensely on NB processing using this workflow. Seems to change by the hour LOL.

NB Image Processing (Camera Raw color correction)

- [ ] Standard calibration for each channel
- [ ] Align images
- [ ] Correct field illumination if necessary
- [ ] Stretch each channel, referencing statistics, to be roughly equivalent in luminance
- [ ] Pixel math with SHO palette
- [ ] Correct magenta script
- [ ] Create a star minimize file
- [ ] Create a starnet++ file
- [ ] Create 16 bit TIF for Photoshop import
- [ ] Utilize Camera Raw to adjust hue/saturation
- [ ] Stretch starnet++ file using masks when appropriate (PS or PI)
- [ ] Import back into PS
- [ ] Evaluate dark structure enhance script
- [ ] Create Photoshop files for starnet++ and star redux images
- [ ] Paste star redux image onto starnet++ image in PS
- [ ] Evaluate star halos in starnet++ image and correct with healing brush. Blink compare with star redux image and correct the major culprits
- [ ] Evaluate Carboni dark structure enhance and other actions on starnet++ image
- [ ] Work on local contrast adjustments with mask if appropriate.
- [ ] Apply sharpening to starnet++ image
- [ ] Evaluate carbon smoothing on starnet++ image
- [ ] Layer in the star redux image
- [ ] Evaluate for final result
