Description

Herschel's ray - NGC2736. The first NB image for me for the year. This is part of a supernova remnant that originated from immense shock waves which cascaded through the interstellar medium after a supernova explosion some 11,000 years ago in the constellation of Vela. It was discovered by John Herschel in 1835 who would have been amazed if he knew the reasons behind its formation.
