Description

20210716 - IC1318 SADR Region / M29 - it’s been more than a month of cloudy skies, and rain that just wouldn’t stop. But finally last Friday- well after midnight, out of the blue 😂- it all cleared out into Clear Skies 🤩. So we continue where we left off over a month ago: expanding on the range of DSO objects captured, to build up the skills 🤓

What was the experience
This time I focused on the SADR region, for a frame neighbouring the Crescent nebula I captured during May. I only started late in the night after some hassle with the setup, so I didn’t spend a lot of time on the framing, had planned to capture it horizontally, but ended up vertically. Part of the butterfly nebula is a little bit off-edge, but I’ve got M29 in the frame as well. Because of the early summer glow and late start, not a lot of frames captured. A quick processing the day after to see how it all turned out.

What’s in the picture(s)
IC1318 - SADR nebula region - https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Sadr_RegionQ
uote: “The Sadr Region (also known as IC 1318 or the Gamma Cygni Nebula) is the diffuse emission nebulasurrounding Sadr (γ Cygni) at the center of Cygnus's cross. The Sadr Region is one of the surrounding nebulousregions; others include the Butterfly Nebula and the Crescent Nebula. It contains many dark nebulae in addition to the emission diffuse nebulae.”M29 - Open Cluster - https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Messier_29Quote: “Messier 29 or M29, also known as NGC 6913, is a quite small, bright open cluster of stars just south of the central bright star Gamma Cygni of a northerly zone of the skyCygnus. It was discovered by Charles Messierin 1764, and can be seen from Earth by using binoculars.”

How it was done

Darks 31x - from a previous session
Processing: Siril, Adobe Photoshop (Mac)

What have I learned from this
Even if there’s not a lot of time, there’s always a bit of a reward for sticking at it, and setting up and capturing some subs. It builds experience and opens ideas for the next shot and the processing: There’s some overlap in this image with the one from the Crescent nebula, so this opens up the possibilities for a first mosaic 🤞😉
Processing has become a 2-phased approach: First a quick pass with Siril and Photoshop PS to see the early result. Later, when it’s Cloudy Nights, a second re-run with PixInsight to bring out the full reward of the image

Clear Skies everybody! 🤩✨🔭
