Description

The southernmost of the Caldwell galaxies, C101 is an intermediate spiral galaxy located in the constellation Pavo. Located at a distance of about 30 million light years, C101 is somewhat larger than the Milky Way with a diameter of 175,000 light years, but is considered to have a similar form. A companion galaxy similar to the Large Magellanic Cloud (NGC6744A) can be seen at the lower right.
