Description

NGC 3165
NGC 3166
NGC 3169

Here we have a trio of Galaxies in the Constellation Sextans with NGC 3166 and NGC 3169 about 71-75M light years from Earth. The warped plane of NGC 3169 and the peculiar morphology of NGC 3166 almost certainly verify that tides from a close encounter have occurred.

NGC 3169 has a small bright nucleus and multiple dust lanes that appear in silhouette against the large central bulge, the spiral arm pattern is of the Filamentary type.

NGC 3166 is a Spiral Galaxy with a very small bright nucleus and a short smooth bar.

The smallest member of this group NGC 3165 (lower left) is a dim Spiral Galaxy.

Thanks, Eddie
