Description

This magnitude 7.9 globular star cluster is located 33,000 light years away in the constellation of Hydra at a declination of -27 degrees.  It spans 12 arc-minutes in our apparent view.  This corresponds to a width of 120 light years. 

M68 contains over 100,000 stars.  The cluster's concentration rating is 10 (out of 12), indicating a relatively loose globular cluster.

From earth's perspective, this cluster is located in the exact opposite direction in the sky from the galactic center of our Milky Way Galaxy.
