Description

This is an 8 panel untracked mosaic shot from the Valley of the Whales, Egypt.
Each panel consists of 3 15 sec sub-exposures, stacked once for the sky and another for the foreground.

The Valley of the Whales (Wadi El Hitan in Arabic), is a national park near Fayoum Oasis and is a UNESCO world heritage site.
The significant of the area is in its unique archaeological nature which clearly demonstrates the fact that millions of years ago the area was in fact an Ocean. Rock formations resemble coral reefs and have well preserved mangrove fossils. Of course, the star attractions, are the plentiful full-sized fossils of prehistoric whales that are found at the park.

Offering a bortle 2 sky and being at a relative convenient distance from Cairo, the Valley is becoming a haven for Egyptian astrophotographers.
