Description

Pluto was near the meridian, so I couldn't resist trying to get an image of it. It was much easier to do than I expected. Rather than mar the image with an arrow marking Pluto's position, let me help you star-hop to it, just as I did that night.

Start at the brightest star just to the right of center. This star marks the center of a nearly horizontal line of three stars, with the rightmost star being slightly further away than the leftmost star. From the center star, move a distance to the leftmost star, then slide left and a little down a similar distance to a fainter star. This fainter star marks the rightmost star of another line of three stars that looks like an exact, but fainter copy of the bright line of three stars. Again, notice that the rightmost star lies a little further from the center star than the leftmost star does. Pluto is the leftmost "star" of these three. Did you find it? It also marks the upper left corner of a parallelogram of stars that, with a couple more faint stars further below, I can't help but see as a faint copy of Delphinus.
