Description

The California Nebula (NGC1499) is so named because it resembles the outline of the state of California, although some may say it looks more like the Flying Spaghetti Monster. This image is made up of four 5-minute exposures using red, green, blue, and hydrogen-alpha filters. It was taken by remotely controlling a telescope in New Mexico. NGC1499 is in our galaxy at a distance of about 1000 light years from Earth.
