Description

We have been waiting for this opportunity for weeks, and suddenly, we had an opportunity in late January. The comet was quite low in the first part of the night though, behind the houses, and we had to search for another target to begin with (and we found another comet near C8! - but that picture is coming later). C/2022 E3 was high enough well after midnight, and we started a a five-hours run. Good we checked the images because the initial 3-minute exposures were too long. In the end, the clear night didn't last long, and we only had 86 images (~1.5h). Which is fine because it would have left the field anyway. By this time the prominent, long ion tail was mostly gone (I think we were just 2-3 days late for catching that). But we are happy with this picture anyway!
