Description

Supernova SN2014J in M82 as seen in the backyard from 4 nights of data collection.

12 hours and 20 minutes of integration from Jan 22-25, 2014. More subs were collected but only the best 80% were used to make the stack. 1200 second subexposures at 100 ISO with the cooled and modifed Pentax K10D camera.

Shot using the Stellarvue SV4 scope with the SSF6 flattener with a stack of the IDAS HEUIB-II and IDAS LPR P2 filters. The stack was to compare the HEUIB's special Ha isolation curves with the light pollution characteristics that the P2 filter provides. In comparison with using the B+W 486 filter, I think latter filter does a better job of limiting the UV frequencies, keeping blue halos from appearing strongly on the full-spectrum camera. The Ha isolation works well and really shows the active regions in M81 well.

Calibrated with Maxim, Stacked in DSS, PP in PixInsight.

Cropped to trim off ragged edges, DBE, Masked stretch script, Histogram stretch, Luminance mask used to run TGVDenoise on the background and Unsharp on the bright parts. Curves used to tweak the final levels of light and saturation.

May have used too heavy of a hand in processing, I'm a little rusty.
