Description

With this composite, our four-month study is complete. This image contains our 18-panel mosaic of almost the entire Virgo Galaxy Cluster as well as 14 images containing all 16 Messier galaxies in the cluster. The mosaic was shot with a William Optics ZenithStar 61 at 360mm focal length using a ZWO ASI2600MC-Pro dedicated astrophotography camera. The individual galaxy shots were taken with a Celestron EdgeHD 1100 at 2800mm in focal length using a ZWO 2400MC-Pro dedicated astrophotography camera.

This project turned out to be far more work than we anticipated. Shooting broadband objects like these in the Bortle 8/9 skies over North Dallas is quite a challenge. But it’s in the books now and we think we can be proud of it.
