Description

This is IC443, the Jellyfish Nebula. It's a supernova remnant from a star that exploded about 30,000 years ago. That star became a neutron star (the neutron star CXOU J061705.3+222127 for those of you keeping score at home). It's about 5,000 light years away in the constellation Gemini, and it's big. It's apparent size in the sky is roughly twice the size of the full moon. It's actual size is about 70 light years across.
