Description

This image has a troubled history. Initially I had decided to test the Antlia Triband filter on this target, but later I realized that it wasn't the most suitable one. So I only used the R channel of the Triband recording to extract the Ha signal (mixed with continuous). The basis of the image was in fact created starting from the shooting of the two nights in which I used the L-Pro filter. The activity took place intermittently between January and Mrch 2023 due to the bad weather of these winter months, which made the project even more cumbersome.

NGC3344 is a relatively isolated barred spiral galaxy located 22.5 million light years away in the constellation Leo Minor. This galaxy belongs to the group known as the Leo spur, which is a branch of the Virgo Supercluster. NGC 3344 has the morphological classification (R)SAB(r)bc, which indicates it is a weakly barred spiral galaxy that exhibits rings and moderate to loosely wound spiral arms.

In the large field picture, the largest galaxies visible in background are laying 600-700 Mly away from earth.
