Description

The Veil Nebula, consisting of the Eastern Veil, Pickering's Triangle, Witch’s Broom (CYG) - leftovers of a cosmic blast from the past

Summer nights are short and not astronomically dark, but in spite of that I captured about 8h on the Veil Nebula region in Cygnus. Little over a year ago, when I first started again with astrophotography, it was one of the first images I tried to captured with my small RedCat scope.
Although my principle is to go for diversity, I thought it was worthwhile to re-visit this DSO, and see what one year of learning would bring, together with an 8 hour run of data over 5 nights

The Veil Nebula is a cloud of heated and ionized gas and dust in the constellation Cygnus. It constitutes the visible portions of the Cygnus Loop, a supernova remnant, many portions of which have acquired their own individual names and catalogue identifiers. The source supernova was a star 20 times more massive than the Sun which exploded between 10,000 and 20,000 years ago. At the time of explosion, the supernova would have appeared brighter than Venus in the sky, and visible in daytime.

One year of experience has helped, but it is also putting my reach for quality even higher. A couple of flaws in the image, caused by artefacts in the camera-sensor. But I’m happy with the level of detail and smoothness in the image. I guess 1 year and 8 hours is paying off

Clear Skies everybody! 🤩✨🔭

Title: Re-Process, bringing out more of the nebulosity, background nebulosity, better star-processing

Description: Re-Process, bringing out more of the nebulosity, background nebulosity, better star-processing (BXT, NXT, StarXT)
The stars around the outer corners seem a bit blurred, although I believe I had set my back focus correctly, so not 100% sure what caused this.
But the area of the nebula itself seems perfect 'in tune', and more detail visible now compared to the original version

Happy to hear your thoughts ...
