A touch of the Summer Milky Way on Langeoog

Hello Star Friends,

On the penultimate day of my vacation in September, I had a small window of time between the onset of darkness and the rise of the moon to record the Milky Way.

Suddenly, bright flashlights appeared on the surrounding beach entrances. Shortly afterwards, a deafening noise was heard that turned out to be a hover powerboat of the police and was driving along the beach. With blue lights and bright headlights. A little later a helicopter appeared, which also used a searchlight. Images of the Milky Way were out of the question now. Or is it?

Despite the moonlight, I tried a series of 11 pictures, 60 seconds each. This is my humble result: "A touch of the summer Milky Way"

Hallo Sternfreunde,

am vorletzten Tag meines Urlaubs im September hatte ich ein kleines Zeitfenster, zwischen der einsetzenden Dunkelheit und des Mondaufgangs, um die Milchstraße aufzunehmen.

Plötzlich erschienen an den umliegenden Strandaufgängen grelle Taschenlampen. Kurz danach war ein ohrenbetäubendes Geräusch zu hören, dass sich als Hoverkraftboot der Polizei entpuppte und den Strand entlang fuhr. Mit Blaulicht und hellen Scheinwerfern. Wenig später tauchte dann noch ein Helikopter auf, der auch einen Suchscheinwerfer einsetzte. An Bildern von der Milchstraße war jetzt nicht mehr zu denken. Oder doch?

Trotz des Mondlichtes versuchte ich eine Serie von 11 Aufnahmen je 60 Sekunden. Das ist mein bescheidenes Ergebnis: "Ein Hauch der Sommermilchstraße"

Views by Submitters (available since September 19th, 2023) Every image is assigned to 50% of available Submitters. In the event that at least 80% of them don't view the image before its time in the IOTD/TP process expires, it's assigned to the other 50% of Submitters and the process begins anew.
Promotions by Submitters When 3 distinct Submitters promote the image, it moves on to the next stage of the process: evaluation for Top Pick status. This requirement, in addition to anonymization of images and distribution to only a subset of them, prevents biases and ensures that the best images are selected.
Promotions by Reviewers When 3 distinct Reviewers promote the image, it moves on to the next stage of the process: evaluation for IOTD status.
Early dismissal Staff members have a lot of images to inspect on a daily basis, and they can dismiss images if they believe they don't meet the requirements for IOTD/TP selection. If an image is dismissed 5 times, it's removed from the process. This streamlines the process and ensures that any bias present in promotions could be overruled by other staff members.
