Description

The SH2-173 emission nebula can be found in the constellation Cassiopeia. Its distance is 8,800 light years, and it is located in the Perseus arm of the Milky Way. It is also known as the Phantom of the Opera Nebula, thanks to its similarity to the mask worn in the famous musical. It is a very faint nebula, so a long integration time is required. Baader's H-alpha Highspeed (f/2) Ultra Narrowband  3.5 nm (C-MOS optimized) filter  also helped a lot in achieving this result. The RGB part of the photo was made with the Celestron HD Edge9.25 telescope and ASI2600 MC Pro camera using the Astronomik L2 UV/IR Block filter, while the Ha part was made with the Baader H-alpha Ultra-Highspeed filter and ASI1600MM Pro camera.
