Description

Seen here is an example of ultra-high resolution planetary imaging at 0.08 arcseconds / pixel.
Images like these were not possible by large ground-based telescopes not so long ago.
Its thanks to advances in modern sensor technology and refinement of the “Lucky Imaging” technique that backyard amateurs like myself can squeeze the most out of our telescopes and the atmosphere.

This image was captured from our backyard on a night with excellent seeing.
The planet was only about 42 degrees in altitude and the ADC was tuned to counteract the effect of atmospheric dispersion as much as possible.

The C14 was collimated as best as possible and the mono ASI290mm was used with RGB filters with 60sec per filter exposures.

Red: 17 x 60s
Green: 13 x 60s
Blue: 12 x 60s
Total Stack time: 42 minutes
Total number of frames captured  ~  500,000 of which 340,000 frames were used in 42 minutes

Data was stacked and derotated with Winjupos.

No AI sharpening/denoise was used.

Each 60 sec capture would have similar parameters:
Duration=60.001s
Frames captured=8156
File type=SER
ROI=744x740FPS (avg.)=135
Shutter=7.256ms
Gain=385 (64%)
Histogramm=51%
Sensor temperature=40.0°C
