Description

The Mighty Copernicus

Day Nine Moon phase
This 93 km beautiful crater in the morning sun is one of the finest impact features of the entire Solar System.....The bright rays that surround it in all directions can easily be seen with the naked eye..... Its floor lies 3760 metres beneath its rim. The southern parts of the floor are rougher than the northern area.......Huge amounts of debris were ejected from the impact about 900 million years ago, the larger fragments causing secondary impact craters, grooves and crater chains arranged radially around Copernicus. The piles of ejected material are tens of metres thick in some places.
