Description

This stunning face on spiral galaxy in Ursa Major is smaller than our home galaxy as it is only 67,000 light years across. At 43 million light years away, it appears small in our skies at less than 4 arc minutes in diameter. I've made a deliberate effort to keep the galaxy's color as natural as possible by first adding in hydrogen alpha data prior to using spectrophotometric color calibration. The only color adjustment made was through color saturation applied to all color channels simultaneously, at the same intensity. The individual color channels were not adjusted independently. Over 25 hours,  were captured to produce this final image using two different telescopes.
