Description

The helmet shaped NGC 2359 with the popular name "Thor's Helmet" is an emission nebula in the constellation Canis Major. With a declination of 13° it was just possible during four consecutive evenings to collect enough photons for a pleasant picture of this wonderful object from my backgarden (at 51°N)
40 x 120s Neodymium filter 2022 March 5
214 x 120s L-eXtreme filter 2022 March 6, 7, 8
In total 8h 28m
After preprocessing in Siril I did try to keep the 'natural' color in the processing with Photoshop, but finally I decided to enhance the blueish color of the helmet to get a more interesting look. I used Starnet++v2 and Topaz Denoise at the end before adding the stars to the final picture.
