Here is an interesting interacting pair. No. 143 in Arp's catalogue, he placed it

in the class 'material emanating from elliptical galaxy, which it clearly, in my opinion, is

not. In fact, this is an interaction of 2 x 'ring' galaxies, 2444 at the top of

the image and 2445 below. The 2 are in the process of merging and in a few

million years will probably have merged to form an elliptical galaxy. In the

meantime chaos rules and there is a lot of star formation going on, particularly

in 2445, which shows severals knots.

Distance about 200 MLy to the pair. 2444 is mag. 13.1, 2445 is mag. 13.1 also

but it's surface brightness is slightly lower at 13.3 mags. per square arcmin.

Nearly 2 hours total exposure in 2 min subs through my 10" Newt (which is

seriously in need of re-coating) and the SX H9C camera. The other pretty little spiral is mag. 15.1 and of unknown distance.
