Description

And here's another from May this year, ngc 2841, another quite difficult

subject because it's arms are so tightly wound. I got around 60 x 60 sec unguided

exposures on this one when it was favourably placed and never got around to

posting it.

It's really quite a bright galaxy at mag. 9.9 and has a highish surface

brightness of 12.4. It's quite a good size, 8' x 4' so why is it so difficult to

resolve? It's a Seyfert Galaxy, very active and it's arms are really tightly

wound up. So tight that they can only be resolved on really good sharp nights. I

may have got a reasonable night here because there is just a hint of the arms

being resolved. I've tried many times to image this one but this is about as

good as I can do.

Sigma combined and unguided, I'll try it again next year with longer subs and

we'll see if there's any improvement.
