Description

Arp 112 consists of a trio of galaxies in Pegasus. From left to right we have: MCG +05-01-026, NGC 7806 and NGC 7805. MCG +05-01-026 is magnitude 16.6 and looks like a distorted galaxy but is classed simply as a spiral galaxy, Sbc. The center galaxy is NGC 7806, magnitude 14.4 with a red shift distance of 203 MLy. It is classed as SA(rs)bc? Pec. which is a little odd because it doesn't look as pec as MCG +05-01-026. For instance, why is it a 'ring' galaxy? I see no evidence for a ring structure at all in my image. The 3rd galaxy is NGC 7805 at 205 MLy and with a magnitude of 14.3 it is classed as SAB0 pec.

Altogether an interesting little cluster of galaxies, which Halton Arp placed in category : "Elliptical and elliptical like galaxies with repelling arms." Which is a bit weird because I didn't think elliptical galaxies had spiral arms, although NGC 7805 does look like an elliptical galaxy despite it's rather strange classification.

My image, done on the 13th September consists of only 30 x 120 second exposures, because then the clouds rolled in and forced an end to the session. Still it does show some detail and raises a few questions about this interesting, distant group. Incidentally, there are quite a few other very faint galaxies scattered across the image if you look for them. Also enclosed is a SIMBAD map of the area, 1 degree radius from Arp 112
